A planet gear is a component of the planetary gear set (final drive) in the drive axle. A set of several planet gears orbits the central sun gear and inside the ring gear, multiplying torque to the wheel. If you hear loud "cracking", grinding, or metallic knocking from the wheel area, and there are large metal shavings in the axle oil, these are classic symptoms of a cracked or stripped planet gear. This failure leads to a complete loss of drive to one wheel and immobilizes the machine.

The GX-AFTER brand is a proven and safe alternative that offers quality comparable to original parts at a much better price.
Planet gears in a single final drive should always be replaced as a complete set. Installing one new gear with old, worn ones will lead to the immediate destruction of the entire set.
For the most durable result, we recommend replacing the entire planetary set: all planet gears, the sun gear, and the hub ring gear.
Before installing new parts, it is imperative to clean the entire hub of old oil residue and all metal shavings.
After the repair, fill the axle with fresh, dedicated gear oil, such as HYPTRON. This will ensure proper lubrication and cooling of the new parts.
Answer: Yes, this is one of the main symptoms. Loud, metallic noises most often indicate broken teeth on the planet gears or the ring gear.
Question: How many planet gears do I need for one wheel?Answer: Depending on the axle type, a single final drive contains from 3 to 5 planet gears. We recommend checking the parts catalog or contacting our advisor.
Question: What is the main cause of final drive failure?Answer: The most common causes are operation with a low oil level, a complete lack of oil, or bearing failure, which causes misalignment of the gears and their destruction.
