The hub ring gear is a key component of the planetary gear set (final drive) in the drive axle. It is a stationary gear against which the smaller planet gears rotate, multiplying torque to the wheel. If you hear loud "cracking", grinding, or metallic knocking from the wheel area, and there are large metal shavings in the axle oil, these are classic symptoms of a cracked or stripped ring gear. This failure leads to a complete loss of drive to one wheel and immobilizes the machine.

The ring gear is fully adapted to work with original planet gears and bearings, ensuring a consistent repair.
The GX-AFTER brand is a proven and safe alternative that offers quality comparable to original parts at a much better price.
When replacing the ring gear, it is absolutely necessary to also replace the planet gears and the sun gear. Installing a new ring gear with old, worn planet gears will lead to the immediate destruction of the entire set.
A final drive overhaul is the perfect time to replace the hub bearings and seal. This will ensure long and trouble-free operation of the entire assembly.
Before installing new parts, it is imperative to clean the entire hub of old oil residue and all metal shavings.
After the repair, fill the axle with fresh, dedicated gear oil, such as HYPTRON. This will ensure proper lubrication and cooling of the new parts.
Answer: Yes, this is one of the main symptoms. Loud, metallic noises most often indicate broken teeth on the ring gear or the planet gears.
Question: Can I replace just the ring gear without the planet gears?Answer: This is highly not recommended. The components of the planetary gear set wear evenly. Installing a new ring gear with old planet gears will cause tooth mismatch, noisy operation, and very rapid destruction of both parts.
Question: What is the main cause of final drive failure?Answer: The most common causes are operation with a low oil level, a complete lack of oil, or bearing failure, which causes misalignment of the gears and their destruction.
