The suction strainer is the first and most important line of defense for the hydraulic pump. Its job is to catch the largest contaminants (metal shavings, seal debris) from the oil before it reaches the pump. If your hydraulics are slow, the oil is overheating, and the hydraulic pump is whining or squealing loudly, these are classic symptoms of a clogged filter. Continued operation with a blocked strainer leads to cavitation (the pump sucking in air), which results in its seizure and the destruction of the entire hydraulic system.

The accuracy and quality of materials guarantee long and trouble-free use without the need for frequent replacement.
The filter is fully adapted to work with original JCB hydraulic systems, ensuring a consistent and safe repair.
The REDX brand is a proven and safe alternative that offers quality comparable to original parts at a much better price.
The suction strainer should be inspected with every hydraulic oil change. Usually, a thorough cleaning is sufficient. Replacement is necessary in case of mechanical damage (torn mesh).
If the strainer is clogged with debris, it means the entire system is contaminated. You must replace the main paper hydraulic filter and refill the system with fresh HYPTRON oil.
Working in the hydraulic tank requires sterile cleanliness. Ensure that no external contaminants enter the system.
A large amount of metal shavings in the strainer indicates a more serious failure within the system (e.g., a failing pump, a damaged cylinder). This requires further diagnosis.
Answer: Yes, this is a primary cause. A clogged suction strainer restricts oil flow to the pump, causing it to run loud (cavitate) and overheat.
Question: Do I have to replace this filter, or can I just clean it?Answer: Unlike paper filters, this mesh strainer is reusable. It only needs to be replaced in case of mechanical damage. However, it should be thoroughly washed and inspected during every oil service.
Question: What's the difference between this filter and the main hydraulic filter?Answer: The suction strainer (this part) is located in the tank and provides initial protection for the pump against large debris. The main filter (usually a paper cartridge) is on the return line to the tank and is responsible for fine filtration of microscopic particles.
