The suction strainer is the first and most important line of defense for the transmission oil pump. Its job is to catch the largest contaminants (metal shavings, clutch disc debris) before they reach the pump. If your transmission is overheating, loses drive when hot, and the oil pump is whining loudly, these are classic symptoms of a clogged filter. Continued operation with a blocked strainer leads to oil pump seizure and, consequently, the destruction of the entire gearbox.

The filter is fully adapted to work with the original transmission, ensuring a consistent and safe repair.
The GX-AFTER brand is a proven and safe alternative that offers quality comparable to original parts at a much better price.
The suction strainer should be inspected with every transmission oil change. Usually, a thorough cleaning is sufficient. Replacement is necessary in case of mechanical damage (torn mesh).
If the strainer is clogged with debris, it means the entire system is contaminated. You must replace the main transmission oil filter (e.g., from REDX) and refill the gearbox with fresh oil (e.g., HYPTRON).
Working inside the gearbox requires absolute cleanliness. Ensure that no external contaminants enter the system.
A large amount of metal shavings in the strainer indicates a more serious failure inside the gearbox (e.g., worn clutch plates, bearings, torque converter). This requires further diagnosis.
Answer: Yes, it is one of the main causes. A clogged suction strainer restricts oil flow, causing the pump and the entire system to overheat. Other causes include a low oil level or a clogged oil cooler.
Question: Do I have to replace this filter, or can I just clean it?Answer: Unlike paper filters, this mesh strainer is reusable. It only needs to be replaced in case of mechanical damage. However, it should be thoroughly washed and inspected during every oil service.
Question: Where is this filter located?Answer: The filter is located inside the gearbox and is accessible after removing the bottom transmission oil pan.
