A critical drivetrain monitoring component – this is a precision transmission oil temperature sensor by GX-AFTER. It is designed for a wide range of JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders (including older 3C, 3D, 4C series) and Loadall telehandlers. It is responsible for continuously monitoring the oil temperature in the transmission system (e.g., Powershift or Synchroshuttle). An accurate temperature reading is crucial for diagnostics and protecting the gearbox from damage due to overheating, which can lead to oil degradation and clutch pack failure.

The list above is for reference. The 701/80627 sensor is used in a very wide range of JCB machines. Always verify the part number from your old unit.
Before replacing the sensor, ensure the machine is switched off and all hydraulic/transmission pressure is released. Transmission oil may be hot – use caution to avoid burns.
The transmission oil temperature sensor monitors the operating conditions of the gearbox. Excessively high temperature is a sign of a problem (e.g., low oil level, worn clutch packs, clogged cooler) and leads to rapid oil degradation and transmission failure.

No. This sensor (701/80627) is for the transmission (gearbox) system. The engine coolant temperature sensor (e.g., 701/80337) is a completely different part with different parameters and often a different thread.
2. What does 1/4" BSP thread mean? This is a standard British Standard Pipe thread with a nominal size of 1/4 inch. This is a critical fitting dimension.
3. My machine has no drive. Will replacing this sensor fix it?Usually not. This sensor only reports temperature. A loss of drive is most often caused by a lack of transmission pressure, which is monitored by a different sensor (pressure sensor, e.g., 701/80519) or a mechanical failure (e.g., pump, solenoid).
