The steering knuckle housing (trunnion) is a key structural component of the drive axle that holds the kingpins and bearings of the knuckle. If your machine experiences noticeable wheel play, "clunking" or knocking sounds when turning, and replacing the kingpins and bearings alone does not help, it is a sign that the bearing seats in the housing have worn out or cracked. Operating with a damaged housing leads to the rapid destruction of new bearings and pins and risks a serious failure of the entire steering system.

Replacing a worn housing is the only effective way to permanently eliminate play in the steering knuckle when replacing bearings and kingpins is no longer enough.
A new, rigid housing protects bearings, kingpins, seals, and tires from accelerated wear caused by play.
A stable steering system is the foundation of safe machine operation, especially at higher road speeds.
Installing a new housing on old, worn bearings (907/08300) and seals (904/06700) is pointless. Always use a new set.
While disassembling, inspect the condition of the kingpins. Their wear can also contribute to play and damage new bearings.
Answer: Yes, this is very likely. Worn seats in the old housing prevent the new bearings from being properly seated, causing the play to return immediately. Replacing the housing solves the problem at its source.
Question: Do I have to replace both the upper and lower housings at the same time?Answer: It is highly recommended. Usually, both components wear out at a similar rate. Replacing the complete set ensures the most durable and reliable repair.
