FASTRAC, Telescopic Handlers
The axle shaft yoke is a key component of the drive axle that connects the axle shaft to the universal joint, allowing power to be transmitted to the wheel while steering. If you hear loud "cracking" or metallic knocking when turning under load, and upon inspection, the bores for the U-joint caps are worn or oval-shaped, these are classic symptoms of a damaged yoke. Continuing to operate with such a fault leads to the destruction of the U-joint, axle shaft, and in extreme cases, can cause the wheel to lock up.

The yoke is fully adapted to work with original axle shafts and U-joints, ensuring a consistent repair.
The GX-AFTER brand is a proven and safe alternative that offers quality comparable to original parts at a much better price.
Installing a new yoke on an old, worn U-joint will cause immediate wear of the new part's bores. These components should always be replaced together.
Before installing the new yoke, thoroughly check the condition of the splines on the axle shaft. If they are worn or twisted, the new yoke will be damaged quickly.
Disassembling the axle shaft is the perfect time to replace the seals in the steering knuckle and at the axle housing. This will protect against oil leaks and water ingress.
After the repair, fill the axle with fresh, dedicated gear oil, such as HYPTRON. This will ensure proper lubrication and cooling of the new parts.
Answer: Yes, it is very likely. Loud, metallic knocking on full lock while moving is the main symptom of a worn U-joint or worn-out bores in the axle shaft yoke.
Question: Can I replace just the yoke without the U-joint?Answer: It is highly not recommended. These two components work together and wear out evenly. Installing a new yoke on an old U-joint will cause a mismatch and very rapid destruction of the new part.
Question: What is the main cause of yoke failure?Answer: The most common causes are the wear of the U-joint itself (lack of lubrication, damaged seals), operating with the wheels turned under very heavy load, and play in the kingpins, which causes improper joint operation.
