An unsecured or loose sideshift clamp nut can lead to the entire excavator carriage becoming loose on the frame. This risks loss of control over the dipper arm and poses a serious danger. Always use new locking washers.
A tab washer is a single-use item. Its job is to physically lock the sideshift ram nut in the correct position after tightening. Failure or wear involves cracking or loss of elasticity (material fatigue).

"Hydrościsk" is a common Polish term for the hydraulic sideshift locking system on a backhoe loader. It allows the operator to hydraulically release, slide the entire backhoe arm left or right on the frame, and then lock it again in the desired position. This washer secures the nut on the ram responsible for this clamping.
2. What is the difference between the left (823/00576) and right (823/00577) washer? They differ in their shape and cut-outs as they are mirror images of each other. They are specially shaped to fit the ram mounting on a specific side of the carriage. They cannot be used interchangeably.
3. Why can't I just tighten the nut really hard? The sideshift system is exposed to constant vibrations and lateral forces during digging. Even the tightest nut without a mechanical lock (like this tab washer) will come loose, leading to damage to the pin threads, the ram, and creating an immense safety hazard of the arm becoming unstable.
