A high-quality 6mm thick thrust washer (wear pad), made of a durable, low-friction polymer (Teflon). It is a key component in the rack and pinion slew mechanism. Its function is to take up vertical play between the kingpost and the sideshift carriage, ensuring a smooth and precise slew of the backhoe arm without jerking.
Aftermarket quality product – an intelligent choice combining excellent quality with an attractive price.
Need a different thickness?
We also stock this wear pad in other thicknesses to compensate for greater wear:
• 823/10270A1 – Thickness: 4mm
• 823/10270A3 – Thickness: 8mm
• 823/10270A4 – Thickness: 10mm

| JCB (Backhoe Loaders) | 3CX, 4CX |
The list above is for reference. We recommend verifying the dimensions on your machine before purchasing.
Replacing kingpost components requires dismantling heavy backhoe arm parts. Always secure the arm from falling using the service lock and certified axle stands. Never rely solely on the machine's hydraulics. Use safety glasses and gloves.
For a complete joint refurbishment, always replace the upper and lower thrust washers at the same time. To ensure perfect sliding and corrosion protection, coat the wear surfaces with a dedicated lubricant like HYPTRON - Wax Grease SHIELD. Remember to also regularly grease the kingpost pins and bushings with HYPTRON grease with MoS2 additive.
Thrust washers are sacrificial components designed to wear out to protect the much more expensive cast iron parts of the kingpost and carriage. Ignoring worn pads leads to play, which causes the arm to "rock", jerk during slewing, and accelerates wear on the rack and pinion.
Replace the wear pads if you notice:
Your older machine is still worth its weight in gold.
We have a wide range of parts for machines with the older slew type that will allow you to keep it in full technical condition for years to come. Protect your machine from expensive repairs – order a complete set of GX-AFTER wear pads and bushings and restore the factory rigidity to the joints.
These pads take up the up-and-down play. If you have rotational play (the arm "wobbles" side to side), the kingpost pin bushings (upper and lower) or the slew ram bushings are likely worn. A comprehensive repair requires assessing and replacing all worn components.
2. How do I choose the correct pad thickness? You should use a feeler gauge to measure the vertical gap between the kingpost and the carriage. Select pads of a thickness that minimizes the gap after installation, while still allowing for free, smooth slewing. We offer wear pads in 4mm, 6.05mm, 8mm, and 10mm thicknesses.
3. How do I distinguish the "old type" of slew from the new one?The "old type" of slew, used up to approx. 1991 (serial number 405988), is based on two hydraulic rams and a rack and pinion system. Newer machines use a slew ring system (like in large excavators), which has a completely different kingpost and carriage design.
