The kingpost is the central structural component on which the entire backhoe arm is mounted. It transfers all the forces and loads from the boom to the machine's frame. If you notice visible cracks on the casting, have excessive play in the slew that cannot be eliminated by replacing pins and bushes, or the bush bores are worn and oval-shaped, these are classic symptoms of a damaged kingpost. Continuing to operate with a cracked kingpost is extremely dangerous and risks the entire arm detaching from the machine.

The kingpost is fully adapted to work with original pins, bushes, and slew mechanism, ensuring a consistent repair.
The GX-AFTER brand is a proven and safe alternative that offers quality comparable to original parts at a much better price.
Installing a new kingpost on old, worn pins and bushes is uneconomical and will lead to rapid wear of the bores in the new part.
Before installing the new kingpost, thoroughly check the condition of the bores in the machine frame. If they are worn, they require repair (line boring).
A kingpost failure is often the result of a worn rack and pinion. For a durable repair, replace the entire slew mechanism.
After installation, generously grease all lubrication points. Use high-quality grease, such as HYPTRON, and replenish it regularly according to the service intervals.
Answer: Initially, play is caused by worn pins, bushes, and wear pads. If work continues with loose joints for a long time, the bores in the kingpost become worn out – then it must be replaced or repaired.
Question: Can I weld a cracked kingpost?Answer: This is extremely not recommended and dangerous. Welding such a heavily loaded cast component weakens its structure and will almost always result in another, more dangerous failure.
Question: What is the main cause of kingpost failure?Answer: The most common cause is prolonged operation with excessive play in the pin joints, which generates huge shock loads and leads to material fatigue and cracking.
