Specialized 237017A1 brake friction disc manufactured by FEROSTEM, a leader in friction material technology. This is a "wet" type disc, made of advanced Graphite composite, designed for operation in the oil bath of drive axles. Dedicated to CASE, New Holland, and Komatsu backhoe loaders.
FEROSTEM products are characterized by precise friction compound selection. The use of graphite ensures a stable friction coefficient and quiet operation (no squeaking), which is crucial for operator comfort and safety.
| Brand | Machine Type |
|---|---|
| CASE | Backhoe Loaders (e.g., 580L, 580M, 580N, 590, 695) |
| New Holland | Backhoe Loaders (LB, B, NH series) |
| Komatsu | Backhoe Loaders (WB series, e.g., WB93, WB97) |
| Fiat-Kobelco / Hitachi | Select backhoe loader models |
The list above is for reference. We recommend verifying dimensions (272mm x 71.1mm x 36 teeth) before purchasing.
Friction discs work in a set with steel counter-plates. When replacing linings, it is also recommended to inspect or replace the steel plates and fill the axle with fresh UTTO/WB 101 oil.
Driving with worn brake discs drastically increases braking distance. Furthermore, complete wear of the friction material leads to "metal-on-metal" friction, contaminating the oil with filings and potentially causing permanent damage to expensive drive axle components.
The 237017A1 friction disc is the actuating element of the axle braking system, generating resistance by rubbing against steel plates.

It is a specific pattern of cuts on the lining, radiating outwards (like sun rays). It allows efficient flow of cooling oil across the disc during braking.
Graphite material is more resistant to high temperatures and provides smoother operation than traditional paper or sintered linings, which is preferred in modern machines.
This depends on the specific axle model. Usually, it's packs of 3-5 discs per side. Please check the parts diagram for your machine.
