The intake manifold heater is a key component of the cold start system in JCB DieselMax engines. It works like a toaster, heating the air entering the cylinders to aid fuel combustion. If your machine is very hard to start in low temperatures, cranks for a long time, or emits white/grey smoke and runs rough for a while after starting, these are classic symptoms of a burnt-out heater. A malfunctioning pre-heating system leads to excessive wear on the battery and starter, and can completely prevent the engine from starting on frosty days.

The heater is fully adapted to work with the original electrical system and manifold, ensuring a consistent repair.
The GX-AFTER brand is a proven and safe alternative that offers quality comparable to original parts at a much better price.
Before starting any work on the electrical system, for your own safety, always disconnect the negative (-) terminal from the battery.
Before replacing the heater, check the dedicated relay and fuse. A faulty relay is a very common cause of a non-functioning grid heater.
Before screwing in the new heater, thoroughly clean the manifold of carbon and soot build-up. This will ensure proper airflow and longer element life.
Use a torque wrench to tighten the heater to the manufacturer's recommended specification. Overtightening can damage the thread in the manifold.
Answer: It is the primary suspect. Other causes include a weak battery, a faulty starter motor, low engine compression, or a fuel system issue.
Question: How do I check if my heater is faulty?Answer: The easiest way is to check for continuity with a multimeter. A burnt-out heater will show an open circuit. You should also check if voltage is being supplied from the relay when the key is turned on.
Question: What's the difference between this grid heater and a flame heater?Answer: This grid heater warms the air using a resistive element, much like a toaster. A flame heater injects and ignites a small amount of fuel to create a flame. JCB DieselMax engines typically use a grid heater system.
