A key component of the wet brake pack – this is a precision-made steel brake separator plate by GX-AFTER. It is designed for the drive axles in CATERPILLAR 428 and 428II backhoe loaders. The separator plate operates in an oil bath, alternating with the friction discs. Its perfectly flat, high-strength steel surface and precise thickness (2.7 mm) are essential for ensuring correct braking force, proper friction, and effective heat dissipation from the brake pack.
GX-AFTER is the smart choice for your machine. We provide high-class replacement parts that combine excellent quality with an attractive price. Each part is carefully verified to ensure full compatibility and reliability you can depend on.

Servicing wet brakes in a drive axle is an advanced repair. It requires the machine to be securely supported on stands and involves removing heavy components (wheels, planetary hub). A faulty brake system is a fatal hazard. Ensure the system is properly bled after repair.
The steel separator plate is the friction counter-surface in a wet brake pack. It alternates with the friction discs. A piston compresses this pack, and the friction between the plates and discs creates the braking force. Wear or damage to these plates is a primary cause of brake failure.

A Separator Plate (9R2476) is a smooth, solid steel disc. A Friction Disc (sold separately) has a friction material (like bronze or Kevlar) bonded to it and features internal splines (teeth) that lock onto the axle shaft.
2. Can I just replace the worn friction discs and reuse these steel plates? This is highly discouraged. If the friction discs are worn, the steel plates are almost certainly overheated, discolored, or warped. Reusing old plates with new friction discs will cause the new discs to be destroyed very quickly and will result in a loss of braking power.
3. Will this plate fit a CAT 428C, D, E, or F?No. This part number 9R2476 is specific to the older CATERPILLAR 428 and 428 Series II. Newer machines (C, D, E, F) use completely different axles and brake packs with different part numbers and dimensions.
