The head gasket is the most critical seal in an engine. It is responsible for sealing the combustion chamber and separating the oil and coolant passages. If your machine is overheating, emitting thick white smoke from the exhaust, you find coolant in the oil (milky oil), or see oil in the coolant expansion tank, these are classic symptoms of a "blown" head gasket. Continued operation with such a failure will lead to seizure and complete destruction of the engine.

A new gasket restores correct compression, eliminates overheating and fluid mixing problems, bringing your engine back to factory specification.
Replacing the gasket promptly is the only way to prevent engine seizure and avoid a complete overhaul.
Choosing an OEM quality product ensures that the repair will be durable and effective, and the engine will operate flawlessly for thousands of hours to come.
Head bolts are single-use, torque-to-yield items. They stretch when tightened to the correct specification. Reusing them risks them breaking.
Before installing a new gasket, check the flatness of the cylinder head and engine block with a straight edge. Any warpage requires the component to be resurfaced (skimmed).
The cylinder head must be tightened in several stages and in the sequence specified in the service manual. Using a torque wrench is absolutely essential.
After the repair, fill the engine with new oil (e.g., HYPTRON) with a new REDX filter, and new HYPTRON coolant. The old fluids are contaminated and can damage the engine.
Answer: This is the primary symptom of coolant entering the combustion chamber, which almost always indicates a failed head gasket. You should stop work immediately.
Question: Do I have to get the head resurfaced when changing the gasket?Answer: It is highly recommended. The overheating that damaged the old gasket has almost certainly warped the cylinder head. Installing a new gasket without resurfacing the head will most likely result in another, rapid failure.
Question: Why is the gasket thickness (1.2mm) so important?Answer: The thickness of the gasket is chosen based on the piston protrusion above the engine block. Installing a gasket of the wrong thickness can lead to pistons hitting the valves or to an incorrect compression ratio and engine running problems.
