Hardened steel bushings are used in joints where there is very high surface pressure and maximum resistance to deformation is required. Bronze bushings have better sliding properties and are more resistant to seizure in case of a temporary lack of lubrication. The choice of material depends on the specifics of the given joint.
2. I have play on the pin, but the old bush looks okay. Do I have to replace it?Yes. Even if the bush is not cracked, the play indicates that its internal diameter has worn. Installing a new, tight pin in an old, worn bush will not eliminate the play and will lead to rapid wear of the pin. Both components should always be replaced at the same time.
3. What happens if I keep working with worn bushings?Prolonged operation with loose pins causes the bores in the arm or cylinder to wear out. The holes become oval, and their repair is very expensive and requires specialized machining (a mobile line boring machine). Replacing bushings in time is the cheapest way to avoid this failure.
