The pulley wheel is a key component of the engine's accessory drive system. It is responsible for transferring drive from the crankshaft to the water pump and alternator via V-belts. If you hear persistent belt squealing, see the pulley wobbling or vibrating, or the belts are falling off or wearing out quickly, these are classic symptoms of a damaged pulley. A worn or cracked pulley will lead to belt failure, which results in an immediate loss of cooling (engine overheating) and battery charging, immobilizing the machine.

The GX-AFTER brand is a proven and safe alternative that offers quality comparable to original parts at a much better price.
Installing a new pulley on old, stretched belts is a mistake. Always replace the pulley together with a new set of belts.
Before installing the new pulley, check the water pump shaft for any play. A "wobbling" pump bearing is a common cause of pulley damage.
Use an appropriate puller to remove the old pulley. Hitting it with a hammer can damage the bearings of the water pump or alternator.
After installation, set the correct tension on the V-belts. Too loose and they will slip and squeal; too tight and they will destroy the pump and alternator bearings.
Answer: It is very likely. Glazed or corroded grooves in the pulley do not provide adequate grip. However, you should first check the tension and condition of the belts themselves.
Question: Can I replace just one of the two belts?Answer: No, V-belts that work in pairs should always be replaced as a matched set. They have identical lengths, which ensures even load distribution. Replacing only one belt will cause it to carry almost all the force, leading to its rapid destruction.
Question: My engine is overheating and the charging light is flickering. Could it be the pulley?Answer: Yes. If the pulley is damaged and the belts are slipping, the water pump and alternator are not spinning at the correct speed. This leads to cooling and charging problems, especially at higher engine RPMs.
