The boom lock cable is a critical safety component connecting the in-cab lever to the mechanical lock on the kingpost (slew frame). Its purpose is to immobilize the backhoe arm in the central position for transport. If you cannot lock the boom, the lock will not release, or the in-cab lever is loose and offers no resistance, these are classic symptoms of a broken, seized, or stretched cable. Driving with an unsecured boom is extremely dangerous – it risks uncontrolled slewing, which can lead to an accident and damage the machine.

The cable is fully adapted to work with the original lock mechanism and lever, ensuring a consistent repair.
A functional cable is essential for the safe transport of the machine on public roads and around the job site.
Before removing the old cable, take a photo or carefully note its routing. Avoid sharp bends in the sheath, which can cause the cable to bind.
Before installation, lubricate the pins and bushes of the locking mechanism on the kingpost. Use a high-quality grease, such as HYPTRON.
After installation, adjust the cable tension using the threaded ends so that the lock engages and disengages with a full stroke, without excessive slack or tension.
Answer: It is the most likely cause – the cable may have snapped or stretched. You should also check the locking mechanism itself (pin and spring) for mechanical damage or seizure.
Question: The lever in the cab is very stiff. What is the cause?Answer: This is a classic symptom of the old cable seizing inside its sheath due to corrosion or dirt. The only solution is to replace it.
Question: Will this cable fit newer machines after 2001?Answer: No, this cable is designed for machines manufactured between 1997-2001. Newer models have a different boom locking system.
