An essential component of the drive axle – a short outer axle shaft (wheel side), designed for JCB 3CX SUPER and 4CX machines. This component transmits the final torque from the planetary hub to the wheel hub. Manufactured from high-grade, hardened alloy steel, it is precisely machined to ensure a perfect spline fit. A faulty axle shaft leads to a loss of drive and can cause serious secondary damage within the axle.
GX-AFTER is the smart choice for your machine. We provide high-class replacement parts that combine excellent quality with an attractive price. Each part is carefully verified to ensure full compatibility and reliability you can depend on.
| Brand (Machine Type) | Model |
|---|---|
| JCB (Backhoe Loaders) | 3CX, 3CX SUPER, 4CX, 4CX SUPER |
| JCB (Telehandlers) | Various Loadall models |
The list above is for reference. Before purchasing, we recommend verifying the part number in the parts catalogue for your machine.
Working on the drive axle requires lifting and securing the machine. Always use certified axle stands with an appropriate load capacity. Never rely solely on the machine's hydraulics or a jack.
The axle shaft transmits 100% of the torque to the wheel. Its breakage ("twisting off") is one of the most serious drivetrain failures, which immediately immobilizes the machine. Worn splines are also dangerous and lead to damage to the planetary hub.
A broken axle shaft means an immobilized machine and costly downtime.
Don't let an axle shaft failure stop your work at the worst moment, for example, in deep mud. Invest in peace of mind and reliability – order a new, hardened GX-AFTER axle shaft and be confident that your drive will not let you down.

The inner (long) axle shaft connects the differential to the planetary hub. The outer (short) axle shaft, like this one, connects the planetary hub to the wheel hub. They differ in length, diameter, and the number of splines.
2. What causes the splines on an axle shaft to wear out?Spline wear is most often caused by natural operation and the transmission of huge forces. The process is accelerated by operating with play in the wheel bearings, frequent, sudden changes in load (jerking), or contamination of the axle oil.
3. I hear a "clicking" sound from the wheel area. Is it definitely the axle shaft?A metallic "clicking" or "skipping" sound when turning under load very often indicates worn splines on the axle shaft or inside the planetary hub. Other causes include a damaged wheel bearing or play in the steering system, but worn splines are a very common diagnosis.
