The history of the Komatsu brand

Komatsu construction machinery is now used around the world. Many users praise their quality and trouble-free work. The Komatsu brand has been on the market for 100 years and it is worth getting acquainted with its history and what led the company to such great success. The entire production activity started in 1921 from pressing machines to crank presses, foundry presses and friction presses. The company received a large order, which brought the brand a huge success. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry entrusted them with the creation of the first agricultural tractor in Japan. A lot of competitors gave up at an early stage of prototyping, despite the fact that it was a very desirable product at the time. Komatsu created a unique tractor in 1931, which brought the brand a huge success. A year later, the first model was improved and modernized and another machine was created - the G25.

However, the company did not rest on its laurels, there were further large orders, e.g. from the Japanese Navy for the production of bulldozers, which were to be used in the construction of air force bases. The first ground leveling machine, the G40 dozer, was developed in Japan by combining hydraulic attachments for earthmoving with a G40 tractor. Komatsu bulldozers initiated the production of construction machinery, which only after World War II could fully spread its wings on a larger scale; it was also then that the D50 model was created, which became the flagship product of the brand.

Due to the rapid development of technology in the world, many Komatsu excavators have been equipped with a microcomputer, which allowed for more efficient and advanced machine control. This contributed significantly to the increase in sales, namely, annual sales increased by 10,000 excavators sold.

The last and so far one of the largest ventures was the production for the American market of the Komatsu 930E dump truck with a capacity of 300 tons, which in the 90s was the largest machine in the world. Thus, the dumper has become another flagship product of the Komatsu brand. In recent years, the company has developed its machines in terms of technology. The KOMTRAX remote machine monitoring system was introduced - the world's first autonomous transport system AHS and the first-ever hybrid hydraulic excavator was created. All years of hard work have led to the fact that today Komatsu is one of the leading companies producing, among others wheel loaders, bulldozers, dumpers, mining equipment, silicone graders, forklifts, freight forwarders, harvesters, crushers and much more.
